Stacked Console Table
This Stacked Console Table has a stance similar to a grand hood ornament from a classic car with it’s elongated but balanced symmetry solidly perched on a single foot. This base was created by stacking thousands of individual scraps of salvaged Oak piece by piece, layer upon layer, carefully controlling both the wall thickness and the exterior profile. Once complete, the exterior surface was gently sculpted smooth using a variety of hand held tools, resulting in a finely honed finish with subtle undulations, similar to that of hand-built ceramics. The depth of color in the base is a result of the mixture of red and white oak including both virgin and old growth timber, and the application of an iron oxide wash. The reaction between the iron oxide wash and the tannins inherently found in oak, results in tones ranging from deep dark black to warm rich browns.
The stacked base is capped with an elongated section of Nero Gold marble. The tones and veining in the Nero Gold perfectly compliment the iron-oxidized salvaged Oak used to create the base.
